  • Currently, what's your favorite song?

"Moonlight Shadow" - specifically, the version by Aselin Debbison. Not always my favorite song (I used ot hate it because I found it disturbing and creepy, and I guess it is, a little, considering the fact that she was, what, twelve? when she sung it. It's not something a twelve year old should sing)Then I couldn't get it out of my head, and listened to it for two whole hours, and now, I love it. (and it makes a little more sense to know that the original version is rumored to be about the murder of John Lennon, though the original writer denies that. Even though the lyrics are way open to interpretation on that point - it could be about ANYBODY) It's not always my favorite song, or the one I want to lsiten to, but at this exact moment, it is.

  • What is the most inspiring book you've ever read?

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It is, perhaps, the greatest book ever written, and certainly the most inspiring to me. it has so many profound things to say ... about family, human nature and dignity,  right and wrong, and courage ... it has been on my favorites list ever since I first read it, and if I had to choose just one book to read, this might be it.

" I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarley win, but sometimes you do." - Atticus Finch

  • What's a book, movie or television show you think more people should know about?

The Enchanted Forrest chronicles (Dealing with Dragons, Searching for Dragons, Calling on Dragons, Talking to Dragons) No question. It is one of the best book series  for kids EVER. And it's one of those you can still enjoy as an adult. It's sad that it's not really all that well known - I only know of a few people who actually know about this series, but it was one of my favorites as a kid - I got into it before I got into Harry Potter. I think that every kid should have a copy of this series, because it's just that good.

  • What is your favorite song to sing at karaoke either on your own or with a group of people and why?

As a choir person, I can say that I don't really do karaoke. No offense. I see very little point in it. Then, again, as a choir person, I memorize songs and lyrics.  I guess it's just a symptom of our society which (wrongfully, I think) relegates singing to professionals It seems that karaoke is the primary way people sing anymore. But I'm getting off topic ... I have to say it is fun to sing - and I sing songs that I'm doing/have done in choir all the time ... well ... most of the time, anyway. I can't help it, they just get stuck in my head, or I'll be in some sort mood where I want to just sing, and I can't stop singing then.  And, yes, in case you're wondering, some of the songs are in foreign langauages - Latin, German, Italian, some in Hebrew ...

  • Who has been the most encouraging person in your life?

hm ... the most? there are so many encouraging people in my life. My mom, my grandma, and my little sister. They're the ones who've always loved me, unconditionally. The other person who comes to my mind is my 6th/7th/8th grade Englsih teacher. Her class helped me to stay sane during the insanity that was middle school. And I can't think of anyone who has taken her class who wouldn't say that it was the best and most awesome class they had ever taken.

  • Has anyone ever said something to you that you could not forget or forgive them for? What was it?

hm ... all the teasing when I was in elementary and middle school would probably fall under this category. I will certainly never forget it. All the other students made fun of me - for just about every reason they could think of. That I was "babyish" and that my name was "stupid" (I never stopped getting teased about my name) were the two common ones from elementary school, and the name calling and teasing and bullying only got worse. Of course, I didn't exactly have the best social graces as a kid (think preschool, first grade), and when you go to school with the same group of people for YEARS, they tend not to let you live those kinds of things down. But I'm older, a little bit wiser (I hope) and I can honestly say that I forgive them. Sure, it hurt at the time, but I can say, looking back on it, I am not angry with them any more. I hope, in fact, that I never do forget how it felt, so that I don't treat anyone else the same way I was treated.

  • A Rant (sort of)

I was talking to someone who was ranting about some anime or other, and they complained that the main caracter was too positive. They wanted the main caracter to be "depressed and emo like the rest of us" this really brought home a point to me - I can't abide negative people. I have to say that I have as much reason as anyone else to be negative. True, I may have less reason than some to be negative, but I have also have more reason than others. I, however, see the glass as half full (and that's on a bad day). I'm serious - even on my worst days, I can always find something to make me happy, there is always something that will make me smile. And I have to say, that's not something I ever want to loose. Perhaps that's why I don't like being around negative people - it's hard to be positive when other people are negative. And I have to say, I feel that they choose it themselves. Really. And dont give me that "misunderstood" garbage. I know "misunderstood", probably better than a lot of you reading this. But I was able to see the good in it - I know myself, for one. But I'm getting off track. Bottom line: people choose to see the rose, or they choose to see the thorns, it's as simple as that.

so: to all the negative people out there: slap yourself upside the head, and at the end of the day, look back and say "X happened today, and it was really great because Y." If you look for the negative, that's what you will see in teh world, however if you look for the positive, that's what you will find. And you can make a choice. And that choice makes all the difference in the world.

  • Have you ever had an addiction? What was it and did you need help overcoming the addiction?

Yeah. There is, of course, the one chemical that no one can live without - dihydrogen monoxide. Besides that there are  also chocolate and caffeine (mostly diet dr. pepper and coffee). I am also addicted to writing.

  • Which ethnic group do you think is the most beautiful?

I have to say that every ethnicity has it's beautiful and not so beautiful people, and it's important to keep in mind that individuals vary eithin an ethnicity so it's hard to come up with a typical "look". as a basis of judging. However, I almost have to say that ... for guys its really a tie. (I'm going to assume similar ages here) I find a lot of Asian guys to be drop dead georgeous. The same thing goes for (and go ahead and call me crazy) Italian guys . I'd say - based on the guys I know - those are the two ethnicities where more guys are good looking than other ethnicities. But that's not to say that guys of other ethnicities can't be good looking either.

As for girls ... well ... I really don't have an opinion. I don't notice girls along racial lines, though perhaps - again, based strictly on the people I know personally - Hispanic women might be my answer there. Of the women I know, most of the ones I would classify as "beautiful" are Hispanic.

  • What are your Halloween traditions?

I don't really have any Halloween traditions - at least none that aren't relegious in nature. I don't have a movie that I watch every year, or a dish that I make, I don't carve pumpkins (no offense, I would rather cook the pumpkins and make pie, or something) or put up lights, I don't go to parties or haunted houses, and I grew out of trick or treating YEARS ago. I do dress up ... somethimes.

  • What are three things or events that have made you who you are today?

hm ... wow ... only three events? then I guess I'd have to say ... first is the hell I went through in sixth grade (though perhaps also though maybe a little less so the hell I went through in third grade). It made me into the socially awkward bookish loner I am today... or perhaps more appropriately it made me realize that was the right thing for me to be. Second is my parents' separation. Strange as it sounds, it made me a more independent person - I had to do things, not only for myself,(which I had been doing before) but I had to chip in and help with family things even more than I ever had. It was good for me. It also put me much more under my mom's influence, which helped to shape some of my worldview, something I view as a good thing. third is my discovery of Druidry/Wicca. The closest way to put it would be to say that I was having a crisis of faith - I guess you could say that I found both Methodism and Catholocism lacking. They really didn't offer me what I needed. Druidry/Wicca did, and I'm a much happier, and I believe a much better, person today for that.

  • What is your idea of paradise?

My idea of paradise is a library. Plenty of books for me to read, with a nice comfy chair or couch of some nature from which I could read as much as I wanted to. There would also be an unlimited supply of diet dr. pepper, and of course, a kitty who would come curl up in my lap and purr while I read. Of course, since it would be paradise, I would never have to sleep, so I could read as much as I wanted to. Also, I would not have a problem with my eyes getting tired when I read too much.

Then again ... assuming that was the entirety of paradise, I would miss my family, and gardening ... and playing my flute and singing ... so those things would have to be worked in, but at the very least my idea if paradise includes plenty of books, and lots of time to read them. If it doesn't have books, it isn't heaven, and I am NOT going.

  • What's the scariest thing that has ever happened to you?

Writing a story that actually started coming true - either some sort of spell was placed on my computer (my 1991 Duracom (yes, with a monitor that only showed things in yellow with a black background, and the Sprint/DOS software, complete with the dot matrix printer ...), which I was still using in 2002, thank you very much!) or I was some sort of psychic (hey, with the amount of diet dr. pepper I was drinking when I write that story ... you never know ...) but the things I wrote about started to come true. (okay ... for example ... I was writing a scene where the caracters were telling a ghost story, and I pulled a name out of the air, but I was flipping through a book of ghost stories later, and the name I had pulled out of the air was actually a story in the book.) It freaked me out, then I told someone about it, and things settled down.

  • What are your favorite desserts and why?

hm ...I think I prefer chocolate sundaes :) They are so AWESOME! so sweet and chocolate - y. They're totally awesome :) Besides, they're the dessert I most often have the supplies for, when I get hit with a dessert craving.

My other favorite dessert is chocolate cannoli. They are the definition of "something deep fried and smothered in chocolate" again ... perfect. Though I can't eat one but once in a while, they're really sweet.

  • Fun Things to do in an Elevaror

When there's only one other person in the elvator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.

    Say "Ding" on every floor.

Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

Ask if you can push the button for other people, but push the wrong ones.

Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if they know what floor your on.

Hold the doors open and say your waiting for a friend. After a while, let the doors close, and say, "Hi Greg. How's your day been?"

Drop a pen and wait until someone goes to pick it up, then scream, "That's mine!"

Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.

Move your desk into the elevator and whenever anyone gets on, ask if they have an apointment.

Lay down the twister mat and ask people if they would like to play.

Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on, ask them if they can hear ticking.

Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.

    Ask, "Did you feel that?"

Stand really close to someone, sniffing them occasionally.

When the doors close, announce to the others, "It's okay, don't panic, they open again!"

Swat at flies that don't exist.

Tell people that you can see their aura.

Call out, "Group Hug!"and then enforce it.

Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering, "Shut up, all of you, just shut up!"

Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"

Stand silently and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.

Stare at another passenger for a while, then announce in horror, "Your one of THEM!" and back away slowly.

Wear a puppet on your hand and use it to talk to the other passengers.

Listen to the elevator walls with your stethoscope.

Make explosion noises when anyone presses a button.

Stare, grinning at another passenger for a while, then announce, "I have new socks on".

Draw a little square on the floor with chalk and announce to the other passnegers, "This is MY personal space!"

    Meow occasionally.

  • What is the first thing you notice about someone?

It depends on the person. An actor on TV? I notice their overall appearance. Someone walking down the street? I don't really have a thing I notice first. Just whatever jumps out at me - clothes, body shape, hair ... whatever is the most unusual. Like ... if someone has dreadlocks, I notice that. If someone was really skinny (or really not)  or, if someone were wearing a brightly colored shirt, or a pink trench coat or a distinctive piece of jewelery, or, perhaps, large plastic glasses. I might even notice the car a person was driving, or the bike they were riding, depending on the situation. (I think if I met someone in a parking lot, and they were driving something that stood out - like a silver volvo - I might notice that first) Also ... it depends how close I am to the person. If I'm standing face to face, I might notice something about their face (like the fact that they have really blue eyes, for example), but standing several feet away, I might notice something different (it would be harder to notice the blue eyes, say, a few spaces down in a parking lot) anyway ... I've given this way too much thought, so I think I'll think about something else ... like Japanese vocabulary.
